Situated several kilometers south of Bhilwara in the Indian state of Rajasthan, Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort in India. It is one of the one of the most beautiful forts in the country and possibly the grandest in the state of Rajasthan. The fort, plainly known as Chittor, spread majestically over an area of 692 acres atop a 180 meter high hill.

It was the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar for 834 years. The fort was seized by Emperor Akbar in 1567 and was consequently abandoned in 1568.
