Drinking, or having an open alcohol container in your possession, in parks, streets, and other public areas is strictly prohibited and has a large fine if caught. The drinking age in Latvia is 18 years old.
Getting around towns and cities in Latvia
Riga has a sizeable network of trolleybus, tram, and bus routes while a single tramline and busses run in Liepaja. You should purchase tickets from the conductor on board and keep them for inspection. Taksobussi (share taxis) are also available but cost more than buses. Taxis are run privately, use meters, and charge extra at night. Some trolleybuses and trams also run at night. The rail in Latvia connect Riga to all of the major cities and towns in the country including Ventspils and Liepaja in the west, Rezekne and Gulbene in the east, and Daugavpils in the southeast.
