The falls were first discovered in 1952 by a French bio-speleologist Henri Coiffait, waterfalls and the accompanying holes fully mapped in 1980 by Speleo Club du Liban. During the spring snow melt, a cascade of 90-100 meters (300-330 feet) fell behind three bridges and then down into a ravine 250 meters (820 feet). A fluorescent dye test in 1988 showed that the water appeared in the spring Dalleh in Mgharet al-Ghaouaghir.
