Venezuela - Travel Guide

Venezuela is a tropical country located at the northern tip of South America. It is surrounded by Guyana to the east, Brazil to the south, and Colombia to the west. From the Andes Mountains located in the western part of the country to the Amazon River, Venezuela is a state known to have a remarkably high biodiversity. On the other hand, its capital city Caracas is known as one of the most modern cities in South America. Venezuela is a successful tourist destination with every kind of the South American taste of culture and memorable beautiful sites waiting to be seen. Venezuela has a large delightful package to keep their visitors bust enjoying their leisure time in this wonderful South American country.

The country's geographic location makes it a gateway to the rest of South America, linking it to the North and to nearby islands in the Caribbean. The main international airport is the Simon Bolivar International Airport located in the state of Vargas. From the airport, buses are available during the day, from 7AM to 6PM, and depart from Parque Central beside Calle del Sur. The bus ride, which will take you to the capital city, costs 18 BsF per passenger. Taxi cabs are also available to take you to Caracas, but at a steep cost of 150 BsF during the day and 200 BsF during the night.

Several airlines operate on a daily or weekly basis and flies mostly to the capital city in Caracas. But there are some airlines that can take you to other cities in Venezuela, particularly in Maracaibo and Valencia. Below is a table that shows a summary of airlines operating in Venezuela. Other airlines that offer non-stop flights to Venezuela are Italy from Rome and Milan, Iberia and Air Europa from Madrid, Lufthansa from Frankfurt, and Sta. Barbara from Tenerife. Several South and Central American airlines such as Aeropostal, Conviasa, Avianca, and Aerolineas Argentinas Airlines also operate and serve direct flights to Venezuela.

The country can also be reached by road through border-crossing in Colombia and Brazil. However, the gateway from Brazil located in the town of Santa Elena de Uairén is very far from Brazilian tourist attractions and is therefore not a common point of entry.

Hotels in Venezuela can be very expensive especially those in the capital city. As an alternative, bed &breakfast (B&Bs) and guest houses are the best option. These guest houses, also known as Posadas, sometimes offer complimentary breakfast or dinner upon request.

Among the most popular tourist attractions in Venezuela are the Angel Falls in the Guiana Highlands, the crystalline beaches in Los Roques, and the amazing wildlife in Los Llanos. Prepare yourself for a spectacular view of the Andes in Mérida, a university town in the Andes Mountains known as a spot for great outdoor activities. Lastly, don't forget to drop by the cultural town of Coro, the first capital of Venezuela. Go downtown and see the grandiose architecture here, which also happens to be a World Heritage Site.
