I watched "Boogie Nights" again the other evening. (Real quickly, it's a great movie for anyone who has not yet seen it! Good writing, good acting, excellent characterization--the whole bit.) And it got me thinking about porn star names. (Why, of course it did! Why wouldn't it?) There were some great ones in the movie:
- Dirk Diggler
- Reed Rothchild
- Amber Waves
- Kurt Longjohn
- Buck Swope
Good stuff! And, of course there's that old gag about how to create your own porn star name. The trick is to take the name of your childhood pet and combine it with the name of the street you lived on as a child. With that formula in mind, my porn star name would be Baron Hillview! (Either that or Blossom Sun Valley--I think I'll stick with the former.) Outstanding!
Of course, there are other tricks out there (just in case you're thinking about needing a porn star name anytime soon):
- Use alliteration (e.g., Jenna Jameson).
- Use a euphemism for a naughty body part (e.g., Christy Canyon).
- Use a combination that, when said quickly together, sounds like a naughty act (e.g., Ben Dover).
- Use a name that sounds like a famous actor/actress (e.g., Mary Carey).
- Use a name from a My Little Pony toy (e.g., Cherry Treats).
- Use two first names (e.g., Ron Jeremy).
- Use a name of a major U.S. business combined with a name from the Biblical Old Testament (e.g., Exxon Methuselah). (OK--I'll admit maybe this one doesn't ring as true as the other ones do.)
Not that I know much (or anything at all!!!!) about porn (although this entry may have revealed just a bit too much), I just thought that this information (all of which was researched; none of which was personal knowledge--I swear!) was simply too valuable not to share.
